James "Chip" Otness - Class of '65

It is obvious that Chip has followed his own advice, both in life and sports - "Always strive to be the best you can and never give up." Chip was a three season athlete who played football, hockey and tennis for the Hornets in the 1960s. He earned honors for his athleticism, academics and leadership. In football Chip was named All-conference halfback as a Senior. Spring found Chip on the tennis court where he was the Regional Singles champion and third place finisher in the State singles tournament in both his junior and senior years. It was on the hockey rink that Chip's athletic talent really shined. Earning three athletic letters and 1st Team All Conference both his junior and senior years. He was the top scorer his senior year and was selected as one of America's Best High School Hockey Players by "Hockey Coast to Coast USA. Chip feels "Incredibly lucky I was to have been able to experience the combination of the coaching of Canakes, Ikola and Matlon. They made me a harder worker, better and smarter person and have been a lifelong inspiration." Chip resides in Rye Brook, New York with his wife Janet. Together they've raised three children.

Julie Peterson Burrows - Class of '77

Growing up in the pre-Title XI era, very few girls played sports, but that didn't stop Julie Peterson from becoming a top athlete. Encouraged by her PE teacher, Miss O'Boyle and field by the success of her middle school intramural team, the Super Jockettes, Julie went on to earn a combined six varsity letters in Tennis and Cross Country Skiing, and won the prestigious Athena Award, along with her twin sister Lynda. She was a trailblazer in Edina High School Girls' Athletics. Julie attended Wellesley College where she continued to compete on and off the court. Julie played Division III Tennis and Squash. She captained both teams her senior year. She finished 7th in Nationals Division I Squash in 1981. Julie went on to earn her MBA at the Harvard Business School. Today Julie is inspired by her family, husband Jeff and children. Julie says "They constantly put new athletic goals in front of me."

Lynda Peterson Seasly - Class of '77

On the EHS Tennis courts, Lynda and her sister Julie were an incredible doubles team. They racked up the wins while laying a foundation of excellence that continues on in the program today. As co-captains, they were the state Doubles Runner-up in 1976 with a season record of 23-1. Lynda calls cross country skiing "One of the most difficult and rewarding experiences of her life." She blazed the trail for future skiers as a member of the first Girls' cross country ski team at Edina. Lynda excelled on the court, the trail and in the classroom. Just as she shared the court and ski trails with her sister Julie, a special exception was made to allow the sisters to share the prestigious 1977 Athena Award. This was the first and only time this has been done. Lynda lives in South Bend, Indiana with her husband, fellow Hornet, Tom Seasly. They have four children.

Paul Nitz - Class of '87

Paul is one of the most decorated athletes ever to be inducted into the Edina Athletic Hall of Fame. He is a five-time Paralympian, a gold medalist and a current world record holder. Sports has driven just about everything I've done," says Paul, who grew up playing basketball, indoor hockey, football and track. While attending EHS from 1984-1987, Paul lettered in adapted basketball. Wanting a college experience that included sports as well as academics, he chose Southwest State University, Minnesota where he completed on its intercollegiate wheelchair basketball team. When his basketball eligibility expired at college Nitz turned to racing for something to do. "I wanted to see if my quickness in basketball could be used on a track", Nitz said. A year later in 1992, he was on his way to the Paralympics in Spain. Paul now works as a senior underwriting support analyst for the Hartford Companies. When Paul isn't working you may find him playing wheelchair rugby.

Peter Armbrust - Class of '96

From the rinks of Edina all the way to the NCAA National Championship ice, Peter Armbrust has always been a stand out hockey player. However, what many people may not know is that he also was a stand-out football player. Prior to his senior year, he was ready to walk away from football to focus on hockey. His decision to continue playing football his senior year was "the best he ever made." He considered Todd Olsen and his staff one of the best. Upon graduation, Peter played hockey at the University of North Dakota. He had the unique experience of winning two NCAA Championships. Peter continued to play semi-pro hockey after graduation. Peter lives in St. Louis Park with his wife Krista and their daughter Sylvie.

Jeannette Cluskey Vickman - Class of '00

Jeannette first hit the tennis court at age 8 at the Edina Rec. Center. It wasn't long before people took notice. She went on to dominate girls' tennis in the Classic Lake conference, winning back-to-back State Class AA Singles in 1998 and 1999. Her win in 1999 led her to be named the Prep Athlete of the Week. Jeannette was a three season athlete at EHS, running varsity track and skiing with the JV downhill team. Jeannette played collegiate tennis at Richmond University and the University of Minnesota. As one of the most prominent tennis players in Edina High School history, she went on to share her knowledge and love of the game with young women as the head coach for the Blake School's Girls' tennis team, coaching them to the Class A State Championship in 2011. Jeannette and her husband Kurt are the proud parents of Kinsley. She currently works as a Marriage and Family Therapist at Park Nicollet Melrose Institute in St. Louis Park.

Jenny Johnson - Coach

Sports were part of Jenny Johnson's world long before she stepped into the halls of EHS in the fall of 1993. She was an accomplished high school and college athlete. At Armstrong High Schoo, Jenny was a decorated three sport athlete. She earned the Armstrong trifecta - three time letter winner and captain across three different sports - volleyball, basketball and softball. Jenny continued her basketball career at the University of Illinois where she was a four year starter and letter winner. After college, Jenny moved into the Edina Math classroom and onto the sidelines of the EHS gym.. She spent 15 years as the Girls' Varsity Basketball coach, coaching the Hornets to a 287-105 record. She was named Section Coach of the Year give times, and in 2007 she was named State Coach of the Year. Johnson led the hornets to four Section Championships and a third place finish in the 2007 State Tournament. Jenny currently serves as an assistant principal at EHS. Away from school, Jenny enjoys spending time at the cabin.

Steve Tschida - Booster

Steve has been part of the Edina High School athletics for almost 20 years helping countless injured Edina student athletes stay healthy and recover from injuries. He graduate from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Athletic Training/Kinesiology. When Steve isn't on the Edina sidelines or attending to Edina's athletes he is cheering on his own kids or enjoying his other hobbies of golf, landscaping and painting. Steve's advice to Edina's young people is, "You get out of life what you put into it! Don't expect to reach your goals in life if you are not going to attempt to up in the effort necessary to achieve all the objectives that make your oals and dreams a reality."
